Senior Associate - Behavioural Insights & Design
Location: Singapore
Employment Type: Permanent Full-time
Work Type: Hybrid

At Verian, we work across the public realm (i.e., governments and the third sector) to offer evidence-driven solutions to create a positive impact to society and people’s lives. If you have a flair for social research and consultancy, are keen to apply your skills to address challenging (often sensitive) human issues, and work with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver a full-service behavioural design and evaluation offer, this could be your opportunity.

Responsibilities

We are looking for a Senior Associate to join our behavioural insights/design team in Singapore. Successful candidates will need to be excited about working on high-profile and complex behaviour change and evaluation projects, be able to handle multiple demands, and occasionally work to tight deadlines. In return for passion and hard work, we strive to provide our employees with a fulfilling and rewarding career in research and consulting.

No two days will ever be the same – but fundamentally the roles may involve:

  • Client servicing: Develop deep understanding of client contexts, decision environments, and behavioural challenges. Translate clients’ challenges into behaviourally-informed research and intervention strategies. Contribute to client discussions, project meetings workshops, and presentations.
  • End-to-end project management: Establish strong client relationships and trust through tight project management. Lead end-to-end project delivery, ensuring that high-quality research, timeline objectives, and stakeholder alignment are met.
  • Literature reviews: Source for and synthesise evidence from secondary sources (e.g. academic literature, published reports, published data) to offer clear and concise summaries of existing research and inform research questions/ gaps. Be able to identify reliable versus unreliable sources to ensure that references are high quality.
  • Behavioural Diagnosis & Intervention Design: Apply behavioural science frameworks (e.g., COM-B, Theoretical Domains Framework, MINDSPACE, behavioural journey mapping) to systematically identify behavioural barriers and drivers, and conduct sludge audits. Design and prototype behavioural interventions (e.g. EAST, NEAR-AFAR), including messaging nudges, choice architecture, active intervention types (e.g., gamification) or others. Formulate clear, testable hypotheses grounded in behavioural theory and prior evidence.
  • Experiment and quasi-experiment design: Design and implement randomised experiments, and quasi-experiments (e.g., DiD, matching, propensity score methods) with appropriate sampling strategies, power calculations, and fieldwork considerations, for online and field trials.
  • Data analysis and modelling: Run statistical models to solve specific research questions. Analyse individual-level and group-level data using appropriate statistical techniques (e.g., regression modelling). Estimate/ isolate intervention effects on outcomes of interest, with appropriate robustness checks and validation of assumptions.
  • Craft evidence-driven narratives for reports: Connect various evidence/ data sources to prepare clear, concise and impactful reports, presentations and/ or workshops. Adapt content to audience profile (e.g., senior leadership, operational teams, fellow researchers)
  • Capability-building and proposal-writing: Support the delivery of bespoke capability-building sessions for our clients. Assisting in the development of strong and differentiated proposals. Strengthening Verian’s reputation as behavioural insights/ design and evaluation experts by contributing to events and publishing/ sharing thought pieces.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree / Master’s Degree, preferably in Cognitive Psychology, Experimental Psychology, Behavioural Economics, Social Data Science, or any other related disciplines.
  • Preferably at least 2 – 3 years of research and/or consulting experience (within government, public/third sector/academic or at a research consulting firm).
  • Solid understanding and grounding in both behavioural science and quantitative methods with application solving in real-world challenges.
  • Good experience conducting quantitative research (e.g. data wrangling/ cleaning, selection of appropriate statistical tests/ models, model diagnostics, results interpretation).
  • Proficient in the use of data analysis software (e.g., Python, R, Stata).
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills – and be interested in honing them further.
  • Be able to respond quickly and work at pace when required.
  • Be a strong team player – interested in working with and learning from others to do great things, keen to have a laugh and enjoy your colleagues, and relish the opportunity to contribute to a growing, inter-disciplinary team.
  • Must be a Singapore citizen or PR, currently residing in Singapore.
  • Ideally able to start in May 2026.

Preferred skillsets/qualities

  • Possess hands-on experience in advanced statistical modelling/ machine learning techniques (e.g., cluster analysis, econometric methods, generalised linear models, Bayesian statistics, text analytics).
  • Have experience designing and implementing behavioural interventions (e.g., nudges).
  • Empathetic and conversational – enjoy interacting with different stakeholders to understand their perspectives, concerns and expectations.
  • Intrinsically curious – driven to ask critical questions and dig deeper into literature/ data to discover more about problems, target audiences and behaviours.
  • Ambitious and interested in innovation and creative thinking – excited by learning curves and being challenged.
  • Care about quality and ‘getting it right’ – taking pride in doing great work.
  • Have a genuine interest in issues facing the public sector and desire to make a positive social impact.
