About the Team

The Legal team provides advice and guidance globally across all levels of the business and multiple jurisdictions. At the heart of what we do is our ethos to provide the highest-quality advice in a dynamic environment often with fast turn-around times.

About the Role

This is a critical and senior role in the team for someone with 3+ years of experience. If you have significantly more experience than this, we’d still like to hear from you.  The role reports directly to the General Counsel. You will also work closely with our Procurement, HR, Compliance, Internal Controls and IT teams, as well as with Country Managers and their global teams.

What You'll Do

Role responsibilities include conducting legal research, drafting and reviewing legal documents & contracts, supporting case and matter management and assisting with the provision of commercially-focused legal advice to our operating entities around the world and to our HQ functions. You will work closely with colleagues across the business, ensuring legal risks are identified and managed effectively while maintaining compliance with relevant legislation.

You will provide and manage fast-paced and complex advice in situations where you may be outside your comfort zone.  You will need to be able to thrive in such an environment without exposing the business to risk.

The role also encompasses some leadership with line management responsibility for a Junior Legal Counsel based in the UK.

What You'll Bring

  • A qualified lawyer with 3+ years’ post-qualification experience gained in a law firm and/or in-house legal team
  • Strong working knowledge of competition law and data privacy requirements, with the ability to apply this knowledge commercially
  • Excellent legal research skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate and practical summaries of findings
  • Experience drafting, reviewing and amending contracts, agreements, correspondence and other legal documentation
  • Experience supporting litigation, disputes and employment-related legal matters where applicable
  • A collaborative approach to advising internal stakeholders and building effective relationships across the business
  • Sound judgement in identifying legal risks and recommending practical solutions that support business objectives
  • A strong understanding of compliance, legal record keeping, matter management and the importance of monitoring legislative and regulatory change
  • Confidence liaising with external counsel, clients, regulatory bodies and other third parties as required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare supporting documentation, reports and presentations
  • A commitment to delivering work to a high professional standard and in line with legal and ethical obligations
  • Comfort switching quickly between legal subjects and managing multiple workstreams with competing deadlines

A bonus if

  • You have both law firm and in-house experience
  • Experience of managing a junior lawyer
  • European language skills

Why Verian

  • Supportive & collaborative environment
  • Hybrid & flexible working
  • Professional growth and development opportunities
